At Madison County School District, we believe every student’s success is anchored in a purposeful, transparent academic plan—one that aligns coursework, graduation requirements, career/technical pathways, and post-secondary goals. This section is designed to guide families in partnership with schools to engage proactively in their child’s academic planning from K-12 and beyond.

Why Academic Planning Matters

  • Academic planning provides a roadmap: it helps students and families map courses and milestones required for graduation, college entry, technical credentials, and workforce readiness.

  • It ensures that course selections, electives, dual-enrollment opportunities, CTE pathways, and remediation needs are aligned with student interests, strengths, and future goals—rather than being an after-thought.

  • Transparent planning helps eliminate inequities: when all families understand requirements, timelines, available pathways, and supports, we reduce opportunity gaps for students from historically underserved populations.

  • Planning fosters student ownership, self-advocacy, and meaningful dialogue between students, families, counselors, and teachers—leading to better outcomes.

Title IX Compliance

Madison County School District offers career and technical programs, including career academies wherein students may earn industry certification:

The district prohibits discrimination in the terms and conditions of employment, and in access to educational programs and activities, and prohibits harassment of any individual or group on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or genetic information (and other protected classes included in the district’s nondiscrimination policies).

Lack of English language skills will not be a barrier to admission and participation. The district may assess each student’s ability to benefit from specific programs through placement tests and counseling, and, if necessary, will provide services or referrals to better prepare students for successful participation.
